CASE STUDY – YARRA VALLEY WRITERS FESTIVAL 2021
YARRA VALLEY WRITERS FESTIVAL
Yarra Valley Writers Festival helps to promote the talented local writers in the Yarra Valley region, whilst showcasing the beauty of the region itself.
This year’s Yarra Valley Writer’s Festival was to held in beautiful Warburton in the Yarra Valley region. With interest spanning well beyond the immediate region, it was important to create a sense of place for attendees who could not make it to the region, but had to join online.
WHAT WE DID
We wanted to bring a little of the charm and beauty of Warburton and its people to the festival, especially those who could only attend online and couldn’t see it for themselves. Hosted by the talented Michael Veitch, a set of Lifestyle-TV pieces were created to accentuate the themes of resilience, renovation and rejuvenation, which were the central themes of this year’s Writers’ festival.
The set of 5 pieces were filmed in one day, using an ultra-light setup. All participants were kitted with wireless microphones so that they had complete freedom to move and do as they wish without sacrificing audio quality, and the camera was literally a fly on the wall, capturing natural conversation between friends.
As it turned out, a snap lockdown was enforced just days before the festival, meaning it had to become fully virtual, making these videos an even more important part of the weekend program.
